Crosby, he sells tickets. NHL franchises need players who will convince the average Joe to go watch and NHL game.

CROSBY IN A HEART BEAT. I DON'T NEED TO TELL YOU WHY IF YOU KNOW YOUR HOCKEY THEN YOU'LL UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CROSBY AND OVECHKIN. YES OVECHKIN IS A REALLY GREAT YOUNG PLAYER BUT TO BUILD A TEAM AROUND CROSBY IS THE GUY YOU WANT.

Jared K>>>>>there is a bigger % in the NHL of European players then American players for a reason cause there better at hockey and Canadian players will always be the best in hockey Crosby. and to the people that keep saying Crosby is a cry baby stop listening to everything everybody else says you here one thing then you believe its all true this is a kid that had an NHL team on his shoulders last year as an 18 year old even Wayne Gretzky never had to do that. you finish high school at 18 years of age, give the Kid a break.

This is always a tough question because each player has different attributes. Sure Crosby is leading in points but Ovechkin is leading in goals. Ovey is older giving him more experience and he set some impressive records in the Russian Super League. He's very physical and not afraid to hit.

Give them a few years to really develop! Check out this article on my vote... Ovechkin!

(Jared K - Ovey's English is pretty good. He's a regular joe and has made a huge effort to fit in and to be an impact both on the team and in the community! And Crosby is a clean cut Kid from Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia in CANADA, not the US.)

Crosby. Every team needs to have a play-maker. He moves well with the puck, can score from just about anywhere on the ice, and can set up team mates with some really nice passes. Ovechkin is a more powerful player. He can take care of business physically and put some points on the board. Umm....can I take both of them.

Ovechkin. Crosby is loved too much, I think it would hurt the rest of the team because the identity would be "Crosby and the whatever team" rather than the team first, who just happens to have Crosby. Also, I bet he would be receiving all the attention and the rest of the players couldn't help but become a little resentful.

Its a toss up, but I have to say Sid the Kid. Ovechkin is great, don't get me wrong, but he is more of a goal scorer. Crosby will score goals and set up goals. Thats something that is useful for a team. Also, Crosby doesn't make is teammates look bad, cause he's passing and letting them score as well.

Both are excellent. You couldn't lose taking either.

It will be interesting to see how they perform in the playoffs. A lot of Europeans don't perform as well in the playoffs as they do in the regular season when you have to take your intensity to the next level.
So if I'm building a franchise in The NHL I would go with Crosby.

It's also easier to market a North American player to fans of the NHL than a European player. Almost seems to be a mistrust on the part of fans that a lot of Europeans just come here for the money and the loyalty is to the paycheck and not the team.

Ovechkin, no question. A star player who can actually engage the fans with personality, as well as skill, is the best asset any team, any league, can have. While both are dynamic talents, Crosby has the personality of a wet mop.

Ovechkin of course. He has all the assets of an NHL superstar (Speed , Shooting , Stick-handling, height, weight , ferocity) he has it all. Crosby is good , and very marketable , but he is no Ovechkin; period. Plus Alex lived up to his rookie hype without whining after every hit like Crosby.
