YES, I know I need to call the repairman. Its Sunday, and I'll have them out tomorrow, but I am looking to see if there is a fix I am missing to save me from more water damage today and tonight.

My dishwasher keeps filling with water, even when shut off. There must be a valve or something that will not shut.

Is there any way that I can fix this myself, suggestions?

I don't know who is responsible for your stuff. But I would think that since happened on the owners property and it was their dishwasher, that they would be responsible. The renter will always try to get out of having to pay for anything because that means they make less money. I have stayed at hotel suites that have dishwashers and if that dishwasher flooded my hotel suite and ruined my belongings, I would expect the hotel to pay for them. So what is the difference between your rental and renting a hotel suite that includes a dishwasher? I don't think that there is a difference. I'd contact the local authorities and explain the situation ans ask them how someone would go about getting their belongings replaced. If they can not help you then I am sure they could point you in the right direction or at least explain some of laws that may come into play. Good Luck. Now to think about it. I used to live on the 3rd floor in an apartment building and the water main broke and flooded the 1st floor apartment. The guy who lived there got his stuff soaked. The landlord put him in a different apartment and replaced his belongings. Maybe the landlord was just being nice, I don't know. But the guy got all of his stuff replaced and a got a couple months of rent for free. That was a long time ago and I live in the north eastern U.S. .

There must be a manual shut off valve somewhere before the dishwasher. If your dishwasher is next to your sink, look for a separate hot water line going to your dishwasher. It's probably split off from the hot water line leading to your kitchen faucet, at least it should be. Just shut the manual valve and the water will stop.

If that's not the case, it may be a dedicated hot water line coming from the basement. You'd have to go down there and follow the hot water line going up to the dishwasher.

First, try to stop the water to that diswasher by the shut - off valve.
It should be under the kitchen sink.
Then, take your time to check the drainage pipe and the water supply hose and the fittings.
If there is no leak comming from one of these hoses then you should remove out the diswasher from under the the top counter and do thoroughly check to the pump.
Most importantly, you should locate the main shut - off valve
In case you make the problem worst you will able to shut off the water completely or go to the outside meter .There is a main valve. It is very easy to take control on this situation.
Also try to disconnect the electrical power from the main electrical power.( circuit breaker). You can also cut off the water from the water heater there is a shut - off valve on the top of that water heater.TRY TO USE YOUR BEST JUDGMENT WHEN YOU COME TO CLOSE THESE VALVES BECAUSE SOMETIMES ARE RUSTY .
THE MINUTE YOU TURN THEME THEY STAR TO LEAK

First reach Under the sink, shut off the water valve to the dishwasher.

Then go to your breaker box and shut off the dishwasher. If the power is off it should help shut it down. If it keeps running a valve or something allowing the water to flow must be broken.
