Why can't i find a pen when i need one?

I blame it on the gremilins in the house..I am always losing them and other things...even after I just had them in my hand.

Pens are wild wonderlusting things that hate being subjugated and enslaved by incapable authors who lack brilliance. Pens and their cousins the pencil hate working for imbeciles and consequently do their best to avoid becoming co-workers.
This brings us to two of Kenth's Law Of Pens & Pencils:
Law # 1 - The lower the IQ of the author, the higher the Pen's ability to to hide from you.
Law # 2 - The distance a pen rolls or bounces away from you is a direct correlation to how ignorant the pen believes you to be.
Stated mathematically: D= (A x I) x T D is distance, A is age, T is time you have spent on the assignment.
Pens bounce or dart in a particular direction in an attempt to actually hurt or maim the user. Clinical research into this phenomenon is inconclusive but anecdotal evidence is frightening.

The pen eating monster has them. He lives in the bottom of the pen container.

pens, pencils, socks and keys have the ability to travel to and from parallel universes. last week i had no pens, they'd all disappeared, yesterday i found 5 pens in my jacket pocket that I'm sure weren't there before. today I'm sock-less and later when I'm going to work, I'm sure that my keys will be in a world where the dinosaurs still rule the earth.
