I can remember a film which was a collection of short stories. One of these short stories was about a picture with a person in it. Every day the person moved closer and closer until one day they vanished and there was a knock on the door. Anyone know this, if I remember it was a black and white short story.

The other is apparently a well known book/story where a guy owns a painting of himself. The guy never ages but the painting does, the only way the guy would die is if he looked directly at the picutre.. If anyone knows their films the guy was in the film An Extrodinary League of Gentleman. But what is the book called and who wrote it, or is it a film?

The first one sounds like one from a series of "The Outer Limits" Or "The Twilight Zone" The second was also depicted in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" (Dorian Gray) and as said by another poster here. From an Oscar Wilde story.

The second story sounds like The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. There was a 1945 movie of it starring Angela Landsbury as his jilted lover. Dorian makes a pact with the devil that his portrait will age while he doesn't. He lives a hedonistic life that leads to murder. Living forever isn't all it's cracked up to be.

It is a commonly available short story by Oscar Wilde. It is called "The Picture Of Dorian Grey". It is available in all large book stores in the UK and USA, it is not an expensive book. Amazon sell it.
OR GET IT FREE HERE : http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/4078 it was written in the Victorian times and is out of copy right so it is fully legal to get it free.
Or try the local library.

The book that you are talking about is called 'Picture of Dorian Gray' by Oscar Wilde. There have been a couple of films made, one in early last century, but I don't have the details of the recent one.

Great, GREAT book. You should read it.
