Having respect for a female and/or a person in general is far from a problem, i think i understand what you are saying...you dont want to 'rub them the wrong way' no pun intended. Just give off that vibe (nuttin spiritual) that you are a cool person and you respect them for them. And unless they dont like to be touched then i guess stick with a hand shake, and if they are comfortable with hugs, then feel free, i mean they are your friends.

Not everyone is touchy feely. If you don't naturally part with a hug don't force it, this will be awkward for both of you. Women tend to be huggers more than men so just follow their lead, but a hand shake seems a little strange to me unless the girl isn't a close friend. Seriously though not being a doctor or anything it just sounds like you may be a little insecure, so what everyone is messed up in one way or another!

Respecting women and feeling comfortable around them are too different things. It sounds as if you have great deal of anxiety being around them. Perhaps you are quite young and as you mature will develop better social skills
