I am a good back stroker I get like 35 on a 50 meter corse

The Basics
1. Keep your feet moving they are the main source
2. When you are using your hands tilt them in the air so the go into the water
3. When your hands are under water make sure to pull water
4. Look up

To keep water out of your nose:
1. Keep on looking up at the celing or the sky
2. How your head is tilted matters
3. Make sure you keep your feet kicking fast
4. A swim cap helped me

The Flip turn
1. Make sure you are close enough to the wall but not too close
2. You are only alowed to take one freestyle sroke so dont be to far away or you will have to glide the way
3. The actual flip tirn is the same as the Free Style
4. Make sure you come up on your back or you will be DQED, I did that once

The Start
1.Grab on to the bar
2. "Swimmers take your mark" Pull yourself up
3. "BUZZER" Push your self on and get in like a Backwards Free
*If you are doing a relay you are allowed to dive in and flip over

The feet: Kick them back and forth very fast. It's called a "flutter kick" and it's the same as on freestyle/crawl.

The arms: Pull them backwards in a circular motion. It's like freestyle/crawl, except backwards. Your thumbs should be the first fingers to leave the water, and your pinkies should be the first to enter.

Head: Keep your head back. That way, your head is always out of the water, and you cannot get water in your nose. However, watch out if somebody close to you is splashing a lot!

Good luck! =D

The golden rule is "chin up, belly up." If you tilt your chin down to your chest and look at your feet to avoid getting water in your nose, you will sink. If you let your body angle down, with your feet dropping far below the surface of the water, you will sink. So tilt your head back, chin pointing straight up to the sky, push your belly up to the surface of the water, and kick with *small* flutter kicks.

To avoid getting water in your nose, make sure your arms are straight; as someone else explained, your thumb should come out of the water first, at your hip, but you should turn your arm mid-air so that your pinky goes in first, high above your head. This will roll your body to the side a little bit--that's good!

If you're still getting water in your nose, try slowing it down a little. It's possible that you're thrashing a bit, which will push you down. Relax and try to make your body as long and straight as possible, while still kicking--you can practice this by just kicking with both arms above your head, chin up, belly up. That should help you improve your body position.

Kick your feet arch your back, move your arms in a reverse circular motion and blow out through your nose, don't breath through your nose. Then don't sink. Keep those arms and feet moving.
