where the china is strong and we are weak?

China is not leading us in all things. China indeed does have an emerging economy which will be a force to be reckoned with, but the United States has the largest GDP, the highest amount of personal wealth distributed among it citizen, the most personal living space per capita and the highest standard of living in the world. We have the best form of government, the most personal freedom and the most powerful military arsenal. Trust me China is a long way from being the strongest and we are definitely not weak. I find it amusing that so many people fear China. The strides that China is making actually will help support world stability. Communism is dying in that country because of the new Capitalist order. These two forms of government stand in direct opposition to each other. When the old guard dies there will be a change of government which will usher in a new age of cooperation between our countries and the entire world will benefit as a result.

Canadians used to ask this about the USA. The answer then and the answer now is the same as your question about China. They have more than 10 times the population of the USA, just like the USA has 10 times the population of
Canada. For us to compete was difficult and that is why alot of American companies are moving to China so that they can make use of that population. But when they do so they make companies in the USA shut down operations in some cases because labour is cheaper in China. A country with a population as large as China, with close proximity to India and the USSR is going to be an ideal location from which to ship goods. The USA was the super power of the industrial age but now that is shifting towards Asia and China, India and Pakistan with large populations, increasing technological changes and an ever increasing eduacated work force. America including Canada and Mexico will still survive but not at the level that they once new unless things change drastically due to wars or some other global catastrophes like earth quakes, sunami's oor changes in the environment. China is getting stronger every day. When Walmart wants to set up stores there you know that they are important. So do you want to support America or keep buying Japanese or foreign made vehicles? It is up to you and I to support our own industries but can we continue to do so when they are inferior in quality to goods made elsewhere including China?

Nags Raj ... I disagree with the premise of your question, too. It IS true that they appear to be excelling in some aspects of their economy if you measure this by the amount of their exports. But this is happening because they've been so far behind for so, so long. It will take quite a while, perhaps, before their masses become more educated and modern manufacturing capabilities spread throughout the country. When they reach that point and their quality of life standards are brought to the same level as other developed countries, the "playing field" will become more level again.

However, there's another way to evaluate this. Although they changed from a centrally managed Communist country, they eventually got wise and realized that a free-market economy was much better for the growth of their country. Vietnam followed, by the way. Politically speaking, though, they still do things the old way. Try to speak out and protest about something there; political commentary seems to not be tolerated. Their jails still hold many people whose only crime was speaking out.

1 out of 100 people in china own a car. 1 out of 30 owns a television set. Enough said. Keep in mind that China has approximately 5 times our population, but the USA has 6 times the GDP of China. China still has to leap past some small European country economies that are 1/6 of our economy before they can even be considered a serious contender.

And it's not just the economies. Want to have a kid in China? Want to express your opinion? Want to choose your own career path? Want to not be forced into the army?

China's society and infrastructure are still evolving, there are a large number of people in that country that still don't even have plumbing or power.

They lead us in cheap labor, but they are even starting to contract that out to other countries.

because she can afford a cheap labor...imagine a quarter or two of 1.3 billion emerges as one manpower, it will overwhelmed the labor force of any other country, even if two country combined...also, no sweat in China is wasted, even prisoner are forced to labor and subsequently their outputs are shipped abroad, what about that? huh? so if you have sweatshops in the states, they have labor camps in china.
