Shutting down the computer after use is good.
Some people leave their computers on all day and night for weeks on end in fear of shutting it down.
The truth is that the average hard drive only has a 4 year life span. Taht is if you only have it on if you need to. If you always have it on it knocks the hard drives life down to about 2 years and you can loose data if it crashes when least expected.

Also, heat warps metal. The hard drive and CPU fan bearings are movable parts and may warp if applied to extended heat when left running for days on end.

Turn your car off when your not using it, turn the lights off when your not using it, turn the TV off when your not using it, turn your Playstation off and definately turn your PC off :)

I hope this helped you :)

Also, programs stored in memory for extended periods of time can become corrupted and malfunction, especially internet protocols. An example would be if you are connected to the internet but cant bring up webpages...usually a shutdown will purge temporary memory and allow internet function again :)

When you shut down your computer, you are letting the hard drive cool. When you start it back up, you make it heat up and expand (slightly). Like anything, start up is the worst thing you can do for your computer. I leave mine on except during strong local lightning storms, then I unplug it too.
One thing to consider is that by turning off your unit and monitor, you can cause the on/off buttons to wear out (not a big problem but a pain).
Still, if you leave it on, it uses about 90 watts of power.
Best answer, if you use your computer daily, leave it on. If you use it a few times a week, turn it off.

???
Are you rich enough to pay high electricity bills?
Well, what people say is somewhat right but it doesn't necessarily mean you have to leave it on for a long time. Your computer will heat up & break down. What they really mean is when you leave your work on your computer just for a short while, about less than an hour. You may leave your computer on for a short while only. Yes, electricity consumption gets higher when you turn it on & off.

some people make the system to be in stand by mode...but in a long run,it is not advisable to keep the system on and also in the stand by mode...when u r downloading a file or hearing a song from the system using organized playlists,u can switch off the monitor(as it consumes more power)...if u no longer use the system then switch it off....

i leave mine on all the time, i was told as long as the fan in back is not blocked, such as up against a wall so there is plenty of air flow, it won't hurt it. so far mine is fine. have had it on almost continuously for over 3 yrs. now with no problem.

Use the standby setting, it uses less power and won't mess up your computer. Shutting it down constantly can mess with it.
