The overnight idea sounds good to me! Try bringing some of her bedding with you (ie, blanket) so that she can be comforted by the familiar smell and feel. The only thing is that I think you must be vigilant on how much time a baby spends in a car seat. However, I think that at 8 months she should be ok. Good luck!

12 hours is a long time for anybody to be riding cooped up in a car. An 8 month old baby will be strapped in the car seat to boot.
Even a very happy baby can become unhappy riding in a car after an extended period especially sitting in one position for that long.
Make regular planned stops for diaper changes, feeding and getting baby out of the seat to stretch as well as a break for the driver if you're driving 12 hours straight.
Do have a safe trip.

Sure. We've driven 4 hours to visit my husband's grandmother multiple times over the past almost 7 years, and my kids are now 2, 5, and 6. You'll want to plan to stop at least once about halfway, and depending on how well your little one travels, you may need to stop a second time. It also helps if the trip coincides with naptime so that baby will nap at least 1-2 hours of the trip. Take plenty of toys and be prepared to sing lots of songs to get you through the rest of the trip. Good luck!

I don't see why not. When I was a baby I LOVED car rides and would fall asleep and my Mom said she even took me for short rides if I got too fussy once in awhile! Especially if you are going at night, she will probably ot even realize how long it is. My suggestions would to have a few toys that she likes, blankets, a change of clothes, bottles, some nice tunes...but I'm sure you've already got these all ready to go!

Driving usually helps infants sleep. Just realize there will be diaper changes and feedings . So you will need to break at some point. Be very careful if you do drive through the night. Stopping at rest stops could be dangerous.

I have been taking my son on trips that are about 8 to 10 hrs since he was a newborn. I would bring a lot of toys wit music jus incase he starts crying and you cant stop. Bring prepared bottles and when you make bathroom breaks, you can feed her. when my son is full, hes happy. even if its in the night trips. although he sleeps pretty much the whole way. if she does start crying, the toys should help til you feed her. good luck!

at this age she probably teething make sure you have stuff like baby orajel, and gas drops on hand and teething rings.for that many hours she might start throwing a fit because she is tired being in the car seat. mine falls asleep in the car all the time but after 2 to 3 hours she wants out of the car seat so we go in a store for a while i would make stops and change her diaper because that pea or bowel movement will burn her skin after a while have toys to entertain her if she starts to cry

I suggest you stop somewhere along the way rather than trying to drive straight through. A 12 hour drive isn't easy and can be quite exhausting...I don't think you would relish falling asleep at the wheel...or are you looking to put your child's life in danger?

Please have your car-seat installation checked by a professional, or if that isn't possible buy a torpedo level and make sure that the seat back is at 45degrees. If the seat isn't at the right angle, not only will it not be comfortable it can compromise her ability to get oxygen.
I would also suspect that the 12 hour drive is going to take AT LEAST 15 hours. You are going to have to stop a couple of times, I am sure.
And remember your daughter is precious, if you are too tired to drive please pull over.

I'm glad she's good in the car. My baby does NOT like the shadows passing from the streetlights as we drive after dark, so we have a clip on booklight attached to her carseat. That and bring her favorite toys and let an adult sit next to her to attend to her are my only suggestions.
