If you were using Firefox (an alternative to Internet Explorer) and Adblock Plus (an add-on for Firefox), you wouldn't have to see any ads like that...

You're right. I saw a thing on 20/20 as well as the nightly news warning of exactly those kinds of emails. Anything saying that you've won some kind of a lottery either from the UK or other were a scam!

There are a lot of sites which give away free stuff like laptops but sometimes they are just scams and other times it really works, they do it for the advertisement.

A general rule is if its to good to be true it probably is(to good to be true)I was on a site yesterday and it had said I won a Plasma TV after following the prompts I soon discovered it was probably dodgy. I had to apply for a subsription and of course send my credit card details. Yeah right!

Of course it's a scam. Just think, if everyone applied, they would have to give millions of laptops away and firms can't afford that!!! You don't get laptops for free unless you win a competition.
