Abbreviation of central processing unit, and pronounced as separate letters. The CPU is the brains of the computer. Sometimes referred to simply as the processor or central processor, the CPU is where most calculations take place. In terms of computing power, the CPU is the most important element of a computer system.
On large machines, CPUs require one or more printed circuit boards. On personal computers and small workstations, the CPU is housed in a single chip called a microprocessor.
Two typical components of a CPU are:
* The arithmetic logic unit (ALU), which performs arithmetic and logical operations.
* The control unit (CU), which extracts instructions from memory and decodes and executes them, calling on the ALU when necessary.

In computer science Central Processing Unit (CPU) is a component which has the capacity to control and process the information given by the user in readable form. It can aceept thousands of input and just give you a right out put in a second. So that they call it brain of computer also. If you want to know more about CPU. you can search in google and go to related websites.

CPU can be found inside the System Unit. It is also known as the brain of the computer. It controls the whole computer system It performs calculations, compares data and produces results. All the other parts of the computer are connected to the ports located at the back of the System Unit. It has two parts namely 1) the external parts which are found outside the system unit; 2) Internal parts which are found inside the system unit. External parts include power switch, reset switch, turbo switch, disk drives, LED, casing and ports. While internal parts include microprocessor, cards, motherboard, haed disk, power supply, fan and speaker.

It's a little wafer of doped up silicon etched by electrons to form transistor logic gates, flip-flop registers and integreated with a dedicated math processing system and operated by a dedicated set of instructions to an area that activates all the little flip flops by using the presence of a charge or no charge (on or off).

it is the brains of the computer it's like the computers heart... alot of components and cards have there own support chips and memory nowadays, but without the cpu you'd have nothing.. it's what runs the software, controls the memory, and everything else...
