I'm trying to fix a dripping tap - which means I will most likely need to change the washer - the tap is one of those where the two taps run into one - The taps don't seem to unscrew anywhere - where abouts is the washer usually located and how do I dismantle the tap? Thanks.

its the top of the tap the disc that has the colour that needs to be removed normally a thin knive or flat headed screw driver flips these off and then you get to washer from there.

If only 'nutty girl' was right life would be a lot easier, but i hadnt changed a tap washer in years, I remember what a simple job it used to be, all I needed to know was if I needed a cold water washer or a hot water washer. a matter of pennies cost.
So I walked into the ironware shop, "Tap washer please" the feller looked at me as if I was from mars! What sort of tap sir etc etc, is it a 'quarter turn'? or is it this that and the other?
It appears that most taps now dont have washers, they need a new 'body' it is now not a simple job but a major plumbing job.
I hope yours works out cheaper than mine.

Are you sure they're not washer-less faucets? Either way first shut off the water supply or you'll be in for an unexpected shower! If they are washer less then you'll need new springs and seals. Not difficult just totally different from stem washers and packing nuts.

Continual dripping tap, will soon cut through the metal tap seat, then you need a gadget to re-cut the seat, best ring a plumber, and ask him what it would cost, to cure the problem
