I can't really answer your questions about oil, since that's a pretty complex project for a country we really don't get statistics on. You may want to pay a visit to www.cia.gov and look up the "World Factbook" for current information. There's a brief history of the country, as well.

The UAE has prospered from international commerce for about 6000 years, and today is no different. The port Jebel Ali boasts the world's largest man-made jetty and entering the port is a maze (I've done it three times by ship).

The UAE is also a gambling center for the Middle East, hence their nickname "the Vegas of the Middle East".

Before WW II, the entire coast was a haven for pirates. You'd never know it visiting the cities today. They're a thriving free trade zone more like the United States than any neighbor.
