without a doubt, the club would be in financial ruin.sell all their decent players to try and keep the club afloat.they would be on a par with the likes of watford, charlton and sheff utd.when abramovich goes, chelsea will go down quicker than the titanic.mourinho do us all a favour, stand your ground, force the russian out and send chelsea into oblivion.

Actually, I doubt that there's even a single club in the Premiership where the gate receipts cover the wage bill!!
Chelsea has previously stated that it has "come to an agreement" with Abramovich that, if and when he gets bored with his toy and goes off to do something else, the club would not be left in a desperate financial situation...but they have never adequately explained exactly how this would be arranged. So maybe he's just intending to leave them a lump sum, but even that wouldn't go very far given their expenses..
I dont think think they would "collapse" totally, but certainly they would be forced to drastically reduce their expenditure by selling their stars, and they would be unable to buy any replacements of the same value. So they'd have to rely on their youth products and cheaper buys..just like 95% of the rest of the Football League. They would just return to where they were ten years ago..an average team at the same level of , say, Manchester City.

Rob
I have maintained this for ages that Abramovich will not be chief financier for Chelsea forever, in fact give it another year or two & he will be gone.
If I recall correctly when he took over at Chelsea his initial task was to rid the team of a debt of around £79m - we all know how much he has spent since & what the massive squad are getting paid. By my estimations the teams weekly bill likely to be close to £2.2m with other operating costs this is likely to be close to the £2.5m mark. With a capacity of approximately 42,400 the revenue by means of gate receipts is likely to be about £1.6m + match day sales of programmes, food etc close to £1.9m - then bearing in mind no team plays every game at home.. further money is spent when digging into TV funds. It is very unlikely that Chelsea are surviving on its own accord.
Money can buy you success but not greatness - your Liverpool's, Man Utd's & Arsenal did spend but all have a long history of success, greatness & continuity that will not be surpassed.
The club will sink back into delapidation that it wallowed in for over 4 decades, now this is not something I am hoping for - I am trying to give a realistic & probably version of events once Abramovich has had enough & cleared off with his KGB boys... umm I would if he had anything to do with Alexander Litvinenko demise ???????

no, because whoever came in would sell off a lot of the more expensive players, and invest in their youth system. they would collapse if the club continued to spend money the way they are now. that wouldn't happen though, because abramovich is the only interested man who can afford to have a bbackup for every position, and field a team of subs that would compete in most leagues

signs are he,s already getting bored with this particular toy, so hopefully he will pull out and we can get back to trying to bring some sort of sanity to the game, it showed some signs of that just before he took over, then every thing went hay wire again. I did have a chuckle recently though when of all people to complain about the ridiculous prices being paid for players alex ferguson had his two penny worth, what a hypocrite, now he,s being out moneyed he doesn,t like it and all of a sudden it,s not fair. Do me a favour.

I have to say yes... As I do believe that any club needs money to be able to buy any player they want and that the reason why the likes of Madrid, Milan, Man U etc are where they are or else they wouldn't be where they are...
Thank You!
