The people clearly no longer have that power, they are outnumbered, outgunned and the sheer weight of the task is too much without great organization. There is one organization with the manpower and the logistical abilities to pull off the task but it would rely heavily on having someone at the top you could trust to give power back to the people once the smoke clears and all the heavy lifting has been done. That's the military,as in a military coup, take the country absorb all assets and figure out the logistics of reorganizing the entire system, led by at least a small cadre of men who could pull it off,it's been done once that's why we are here. Otherwise it's a directionless anarchy that destroys us,unfortunaly all our military leaders are politicians now too so I think we are just screwed.

It is relatively easy to break up such a system compared to the second part: with what do you replace it that is better? Revolutionaries usually know only revolution and have little idea of how to build a new system after they have torn the old one down. One of the best examples of a hard-line revolutionary who fit this description was Yassir Arafat, who was good at rebelling against Israeli authority but horribly bad at creating a new nation-state, which is the prime reason why he never managed to set in place a Palestinian state. He was only able to get as far as a revolutionary authority, and that's it. His ruling party was eventually voted out by a couple of the factors you cite as a reason for revolution in the first place: corruption and lies.

So before you run off to tear something down, you better have in place a workable plan to build something to replace it, something most revolutionaries, other than brutal dictators who use fear and oppression to hold onto power, have no idea how to do.

Convince people to stop buying into this system. all I need is a bowl, a spoon and a robe. No Ipod, No credit cards, no loans for a car that cost 5 times what it should. Life outside the system is much better than being a slave to it.
Don't think you're a slave? Then why do you go to work? To pay mortgages, car payments, light bills, insurance, doctor's visits for the kids, vet bills, credit card bills so you can charge a bunch of crap you don't need. Stop paying for a few months and your world will fall apart around you. I argue that's economic slavery, albeit by your own hand.

The first rule is, you don't talk about Fight Club.

The second rule is, YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB.

Actually though, what with running up obscene deficits in financing the war and depleting the military, George Bush is doing a pretty good job of breaking the US system now. America is now a huge debtor nation to China, and their willingness to keep floating us will only last so long as we keep buying their cheap imports.

Americans are like junkies and the Chinese are the dealers...once we stop being able to pay them, the Chinese will start calling in those debts and it'll be time to start sucking some Chinese wang. And there's about a billion Wangs in China.

voting wont do it ... it spans multiple presidencies and political party control ... neither will being against one thing, say, the war for instance ... the only thing that will break their stranglehold on america is a large scale awakening through education and information about the truth ... exposing those that hide behind the scenes ... the majority of the population have no idea who controls the american economy or how it actually works, all that is talked about is complex sounding economic jibberish ..... national debts and deficits ... not too many people realize their are private individuals that are behind our banking system conrolling everything from the printing of the money to interest rates and the amount of cash in circulation, to confiscating ALL our taxes as profits through interest ....people just need to become informed ...
