There are two versions of Rugby -- Rugby League and Rugby Union.
Rugby union is the more popular version globally, league is played more enthusiastically in England and Australia, so unless you're from there, i'm pretty sure you mean Rugby Union.

I myself play rugby union but i also know the rules of rugby league. To get a basic idea, simply look up the wikipedia sites (i have included them in the "sources" area) which gives a basic introductory lesson under the "rules" section.
I think this describs Rugby pretty well.

just remember this
pass backwards,
tackle people by the legs (low down like around the knees)
try not to get tackled by some amzingly big bloke (it hurts)
and punching is only aloud when the reff can't see so mainly in the scrums
well there is more, you should probably go on google uk and search up rules of rugby or some thing like that
