An acoustic guitar is usually your best bet. It's much cheaper than having to buy an electric guitar, amp, and wires. The Acoustic will help you get used to holding a guitar, plucking the strings, knowing where everything is on a guitar (all without driving your parents or neighbors insane.) There's also the electric acoustic (where you can connect it to an amp when it's necessary to purchase one.)

A classical or an acoustic's usually the best. There are cheaper ones if your budget's not too high. But most importantly you must love the guitar you buy. If you hate it or even dislike how it looks then you'll most probably put it aside which defeats the purpose.
If you love your guitar, however, you'll be more prepared to learn and be better at it.
Anyway, electric guitars are not exactly the best starters due to its pricing and the amount of equipment needed.
You should start with nylon strings if possible, they give a more "clean" sound and its lighter on the fingers. Gradually build your way to using steel strings, which take a bit more tolerance and therefore not recommended as a starting point for females who lack determination to play at the cost of the pain that comes with it. (I've had female friends who quit just cause they felt it was just too hard to continue).
Moreover, nylon strings tend to have a nicer sound in the way that they have the more "normal" sound that would be associated with a guitar compared to using steel strings, which takes some practice to apply the correct amount of pressure and location of the fingering to have a sound without extra vibrations from the fretboard.

Don't buy a really cheap guitar. I did at first and for a long time I thought I was a useless guitar player. Then I bought a reasonable guitar and it was a different world after that. Buy something acoustic to start with - a good name like Fender or Ibanez- it can be second hand to save money.

Depending on what type of music you would like to play .
Its a personal choice as a matter of factly. For my self , I used a classical guitar. Which have different names and can cost quite a bit of money.
But for starters a good guitar like a Carlos, which I personally prefer has a super tone and sound. You need to find one that has no cliches or no bumps and has a smooth surface and the opening is perfect . What I mean is that a guitar must be crafts manship or it is not a guitar.
I love my guitar which I had from childhood on. It's been with me through all these years and many more to come.
Go to a store guitar store in your city, and ask arround.
But a good Carlos guitar will make you proud and will want you to take care of it! Good luck in playing you will enjoy it.
My tip, find a great teacher, who does not just let you learn the chords. But also has the time to teach you every note on your guitar. That's what I mastered for years. I love hearing classical guitar, and I practice a lot myself.
You will know your guitar by heartr. And it's good for your ear to train it to the sound of your instrument. Than you can grow to learn chords onces you have mastered the notes.
Make sure you purchase a beginners book , that contains out of learning the notes of your guitar as well as the chords it's self. Also I have sheet sheet chords, they are varieties out there. The once I prefer, is that you take in your guitar case with you at all times. They come in hocked up together in a ring. And they have all the chords you will ever need to know. Speaking from personal experience. Good luck. Greetings from Utah.
