If you think about it there are more people getting Socked in "American Football". While in the rest of the world's "Football" the Socking is mostly amongst the fans. So despite the fact that it is named "Soccer" by the Americans, Canadians, and the Australians, it is really "American Football" that should be called "Soccer". But trying to convince the Americans to change is virtually impossible. Just take in the fact that us Americans still don't use the metric system unless it is to work on foreign built cars.

soccer derives from association football and if a country has a popular code of football other than association football, then the sport is called soccer. However, since theyre deriving it from associatin, then any sport can be called soccer. association basketball has soc in it to so lets call it soccer as well haha. But yes, its not that complicated use of mostly foot and ball. There is very little use of the foot kicking the ball in American football. I like to call it footie. But if I say football, my friends here in the US would think Im talking about gridiron.

Although I call it Football it doesn't always annoy me. It has for so long in Australia been called Soccer to differentiate between the codes we call football by those that do not follow the sport, that I'm used to hearing it. Especially from my family who are out and out Rugby League fanatics. I guess it's really just a matter of what one is used to, but you will never hear me personally say Soccer.
