Never buy a secondhand tyre, simple as that. It is the only thing between you and the road.

Your tyres are the only contact you have with the road (hopefully...).
1) How old is the replacement?
2) How hard did the previous rider actually ride?
3) Has it ever been damaged?
4) Has it ever been kerbed?
5) Has it ever been repaired?
6) Does it have a guarantee?
7) How much do you value your life?
If the answers to questions 1) to 6) are "I don't know", the answer to question 7) should be "Enough that I won't buy a second-hand tyre".

you can run the tyre down to 1.6mm before it becomes illegal so you will have plenty of running out of it depending how you ride it Tommy.
