I'm looking at renting a laptop but I don't know what to look for. What things do I need to look for if I want to use the net, download music and burn it to cd's, email and do a bit of typing?

hii...many important things
of course if u have good budget so u dont have to struggle too much about this as most expensive laps have all what we need.
look for the hard drive capacity ...best over 80 GB
RAM 1024 Mb
processor ...intel celeron dual
speed over 1.6
graphics
screen size 15 inch minimum
WIFI ..internet wireless
those are the most important and critical ones
the brand (toshiba,sony.,Dell...on top list but if u find these properties in other laptops and very good price they will not be bad of course )so dont rely too much on the brand
most Dell laps have blutooth in them!!
good news I bought mine online from comet it was 50 quid less than store price and it was reallly bargain
so check their websites regularly for good offers

finally it all depends on what u need but bear this in ur mind while u are buying
and check PC world website they have I think a guide
good luck

it really depends on what you want. i bought laptop (this one) last week. what i looked for was:
- webcam
- bluetooth
- good memory
- good speed
- known brand (acer,sony)
- screen size (15.4)
- wireless
- internet
- 3+ usb ports
- cd/dvd drive
- other functions
- and yes... appearance
- your budget aswell

these are some thing i would think about before buying a laptop, basically what you are trying to do is get the best piece for the least amount of money. chances are you wont get all of the qualities you would like, i didn't i had to choose between webcam and bluetooth so i picked the in-built webcam and bought a bluetooth 10m range separatly it was only £8. also i wanted the pink vaio laptop but i had to compromise as that was £200 more and had a lot less functions.

you could go on comet or currys to see functions of laptops, have a good read then you will know what to ook for in a laptop. i hope i helped.
