The technical answer is that it is the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the United States.
It is not the oldest continuously occupied town because a number of Native American locations beat it out in that category.

No ! It is not even close. Taos , New Mexico, inhabited by the Taos Indians has been continuously habituated for more than 1000 years.
Saint Augustine is the oldest Caucasian town but it was founded by the Spanish only after they destroyed the Indian village that was on that site. The Spainish Priests raped the Indian women and enslaved the men. And made good christians out of the poor devils.
