you can use cedar chips placed in the toe of old pantyhose and hang them in the area.

you can sprinkle the herb penny royal in the stairwell and this will deter them

you can place a hedge apple or two in the room and this will get rid of them. hedge apple has been used as a crawling insect repellent for hundreds of years www.hedgeapple.com

to kill them mix 1 oz of table salt in 1 gallon of warm water and put into spray bottle and spray the area. avoid plants with this.

store bought products such as Jungle Rain and Dr Bronner's Peppermint Soap also work well and with different types of bugs

Depends on the type of spider, there are natural predators that you can buy that will destroy some spiders. My cat eats em, which they do to supplement their diet and get a wide range of nutrients-you could borrow her! lol

I get Spider Mites (tiny, dust like spiders) in my garden and home, and they suck sap from my plants. I fight them with some oil based sprays, eg. neem oil, as well as natural predators which I buy. Pyrethrum comes from chrysanthemums and is a natural miticide (mites (are in the same animal group) killer) too.

Diatomaceous earth or amorphous silica gel dry them out, but I haven't tried them.

I use soap based sprays on insects, and you could research its effectiveness on spiders too, though remember they are different classes of animals to each other.

Try to change the conditions of the stairwell too, if it's proved so popular. Clear it regularly, and block crevices that make entrances and hiding spots for them. Outside - spiders are cutback by cold winter weather and will constantly mate in wamer weather, often hiding eggs over winter. Keep cleaning in and around the area, to remove any.

Put any you find in some place far away, say hedgerows, so that you don't kill, just relocate if poss.

Good luck! Rob

Seal cracks in walls and floor. Tape up boxes if you store things in the area and if possible keep them away from the walls and off the floor. Also the good old hoover is apparently the best way to get rid, it does not involve and chemical nasties but their bodies can't with stand the effects.
Happy spider hunting!

Bee's Die without their stinger, which is left behind after they sting. the stinger, and the poison gland gets ripped out of the bee and it therefore dies... HOWEVER this does not apply to wasps and hornets.. they have unbarbed retractable stingers that can be plunged multiple times with no damage to them and much pain to you. "africanized" or "killer" bees still fall into the "one sting then death" catagory, however unlike regular bees, they are much more aggressive, territorial and quicker to sting. bees and bumble bees only use their stinger when their wee excuse for a brain decides that it is the only choice. oddly, "mud daubers" those ugly looking wasps with the abdomens that stick way out from the rest of the body and the extra long legs? they're actually pretty docile and it takes quite abit of annoyance to cause them to strike.. So once the stinger is out of your skin (if it was left there) clean it up, put ice on it right after you get it so do that now, After applying ice take it off after it feel uncomfortable (5-10 minutes) it helpes reduce swelling take a paper towel/fabric towel and dry up your finger. Remeber to make sure that there i no stinger because it will keep being swollen and make sure you dont dig or push the stinger it will make it worse and irritate it. When i was little my mom used her credit card to scrape the stinger out :-) Also trying applying Onions,Mud (this ones gross..my grandpa taught me ) chew tabacoo or get someone to do it and put it on ,YUCK! and if nothing works just leave it alone if it is swelling and you cant do anything about it cover it up with a band-aid lots of people get cuts on their fingers and no one will know what under, try some of the websites below im sure something will do the trick , i dont think lots of stuff will help if your allergic though Dont there is worse pain in your life im sure ad mother nature is a ***** i know :)
