Yup because they try to over compensate for their lack of self confidence by portraying themselves as being better than everyone else. A person who is comfortable with who they are doesn't need to put other people down to feel better.

In most cases "conceited" people DO have low self-esteem. Conceit is often an affectation; a superior attitude used by someone who feels anything but superior.
People who feel truly good about themselves rarely, if ever, need to affect a superior attitude in the presence of others. In fact, many will go out of their way to make others feel better, too.

People with low self esteem will do anything to protect what they see as theirs and can often come off as being arrogant.
