Is there a time when the baby cries more? I noticed this with my baby, after every feed she screamed the house down, she was about 2 weeks old, I started to use Infracol, its for colic ( its a life saver) colic affects most babies, do check with your doctor, don't be afraid to call every time you think you need to, this is what they are there for. I know how upsetting this can be for you knowing there is something wrong with the baby and you just don't know what, its a process of elimination, once you have fed, changed and cuddled the baby and it still cries, you musk seek advice from a professional.

Firstly eliminate all the reasons as to why baby seems constantly unsettled. You may just be unlucky, like me, to have a "whiny' baby. I, too, was very frustrated. It seemed like I was forever holding him (it was the only time he was happy!!!) In the end I invested in a Fisher Price Papasan Cradle swing. It swings both side to side and back to front, with a rotating mobile and mirror for baby to look at themselves. I found he could go from crying to asleep in 2 minutes. He found it sooooo soothing!!! It became his favourite place, and would fall to sleep before I had even turned it on! Even now, 8 months later, he still loves it . . . and so do I. It has been a lifesaver, and I would recommend a swing to anyone with an unsettled baby. Good luck with your little one.

if baby has been crying for a long time and you have tried all the obvious things and you don't think the baby is ill then put him/her in her cot and darken the room leave her for 10 minutes or so you need time out as well as it can be so stressful no harm will come to your baby let him cry for abit go and have a cup of tea

Hate to say it but some babies just cry for the sake of crying and as long as its fed, cleaned and all that there is nothing you can do. i tell you one thing though that they used to do years ago and i tell you it will do your baby the world of good. Get them really wrapped up, put them in their pram, put the raincover on, drive them to the bottom of the garden and leave them there! Even if its just for 10 minutes while you regain sanity! Seriously, my sister cried none stop when she was a baby and this was all my mum could do to stop herself crying too! good luck x

Once you have established that it is not a feed due etc, trying swaddling, then putting baby in your arms but laying them on the side a shushing really loud in their ear. If they have a sother pop that in too. It makes them feel like they are back in the womb.

Read Baby Bliss, cant remember the chap that wrote it but he has been o television and shown how to do it - he gets it to wroks every time. It is fascinating and brilliant!

A really interesting read too!

Good Luck!

See your doctor and get referred to a welfare sister (or that is what they call them here). There job is to give advice and to monitor how the baby is going with things like sleeping, feeding, ect. They also weigh the baby to check it is gaining the correct amount of weight. If you are having problems you don't have to do it alone. There are many people who can help you you only have to ask.

my sister has a 5 month old, and at first he cried alot, me, my sister, and my mom almost went crazy, we thought he had colic, but he didn't, my sister insists on feeding him when he cries, but she had to be told, he isn't always hungry when he cries, I mean there would be points where he would just cry for no reason, as in, he had a dry diaper on, had been fed already, had his pacifier, but he had been left in the crib, I suggest getting a boppy if you don't have one, they love sitting, or laying in them, if you don't approve of pacifiers, I would suggest some kind of newborn oral toy, my nephew preferred his " foo foo " ( pacifier ).. and it will only get worse as your baby gets older, I'm not saying children are bad, just that raising them, takes a lot of patience.. when my nephew gets really cranky, and fights his sleep, ( which he does a lot !!! ) I rock him in my arms, or walk around, and dance with him, and sing slow country songs to him, or a lullaby if you know some.. babies love to be sang to, and my sister won't do this, so I do, and they are no judge, babies won't care if your off key, or your voice is hoarse, they just want to be cooed to sleep, hold your baby close to your heart also, the baby is used to hearing your heart beat after being inside you for 9 months, this will give them a sense of security..

Best of luck to you hun.. Good Luck!..

Babies cry because its their only way to communicate.

Coud your baby be:

Hungry?
wet or dirty?
Too hot?
Too cold?
Uncomfortable?
Lonely and needs a cuddle?
Suffering from colic?

If you still can't figure out whats causing the crying check with your midwife or doctor in case your baby is ill.

crying is their only language - so we have to figure out what's up

1. diaper dry?
2. been fed - hungry?

3. just want to be picked up - hmmmmm - then they can cry
remember - they have been with mom - in protected warmth
and now they are in the cold world

4. maybe wrap them up securely in a blanket - like a papoose
that will give them the feeling of enclosure

5. are they picking at their ears or something that may be hurting them? bugs?

best of luck
