It depends on what you're into Adam. I just got back from 2 weeks there and had a great time.
It's a big, dirty city so if you're not into that, then get out of it.
There are some great bars/nightlife around the Ermita/Malate areas. that's good nighttime fun.
Not much in the way of scenery but there are some lovely old churches if you're into that. In the evening, take a walk along the Baywalk (Roxas Ave, Malate). Great outdoor restaurants there. Good food and free entertainment.
Shopping in manila is good - lots of great shopping malls.
Get out of town and go visit some of the islands. A close one is Mindoro (3 hours away). The area called Puerto Galera has lovely beaches and great diving and snorkling.
Enjoy your trip. I loved mine and I'll be back there in a few months.

Talk to me... Im bored.
I would have joked around but after reading the other answers I got upset. Makati is a clean city, contrary to how they described Manila as big dirty city. Try littering there and you might spend the rest of your stay here in jail. Makati is one of the livliest places in Manila... classy malls, fine dining restaurants and decent clubs. I wouldn't recommend Roxas Blvd. cuz there's nothing much to do there. Ermita is the known red light district in Manila... now that's a dirty place both figuratively speaking and literally. Other great places in Manila are Ortigas area, where you find the best shopping malls in town, Greenhills and Tomas Morato Street in Quezon City if your looking for night life. Intramuros is also a splendid destination, along with Binondo (China town), cuz both have so many things to say about our hisory. If you have the time, go island hopping down south where great beaches await. Up north there are also a few great provinces to visit. Have fun. And "Mabuhay!" :p

Manila...that would be fun, it should to be an adventure for you! you MUST ride the colorful jeepney, (prefer a sunday for a speed ride of your life hehe) the calesa (one-horse driven carriage), the old churches in the walled city (intramuros), chinatown (binondo) has authentic chinese cusine and there are walking tours available.
By the way, mid-march (march 17) there's a book launch about this historic town of Quiapo. you'll be surprised to find that there are interesting architecture in the area.
Hey, hope to see you around ;-D

Take the one-day tour of Corregidor Island, Intramuros, nightlife in Ermita/Malate.
Outside of Manila there are a lot of beatiful places, but these three are at the top of the list in Manila.
===============
Gameplan_Extreme - Ermita / Malate hasn't been the red-light distric for a few years. This is now in MAKATI - Burgos st, which is part of why I don't like Makati.

If you want to visit the scenery though, you have to go to beaches like in Palawan, Batangas, Davao, El Nido, or Boracay. You could also go to Bohol where there's beaches and the chocolate hills. If you want the places that can be reached by driving, go to Tagaytay or Baguio. Tagaytay is about 1-2 hours from Manila but Baguio is about 8 hours from Manila. Batangas is about 3-4 hours from Manila by driving. Go to the malls like Rockwell or Greenbelt in Makati or Shangrila in Ortigas.

find some nice local people from some outlying island provinces, have them take you around for a few days of site seeing their favorite spots growing up. i went to biliran island its south near tacloban, and specifically caibiran and naval there are some nice falls and quiet beaches and beach islands around there, no tourists to bother you and the locals are so excited to see any tourists that they treat you very well and do not raise any prices for you. travel on that island is hard as the roads are very rough, but just carry a back pack a few days change of clothes,bug repeal-ant, swimming trunks and cash there is an ATM in naval but from caibiran its an hour+ ride on motorcycle. but i had the time of my life there.

Manila is pretty crowded. I like Cebu better. And Cebu is closer to a lot of outlying attractions within just a few hours.
