Windows Vista is the latest OS being offerred by Microsoft.
- It has a new look (called Aero) which gives the entire computer a classy look. It has tweaked a couple of buttons here and there, but all in all you will not be very lost on a Vista box.
- It includes the new Internet Explorer 7 and also includes other featuers which makes you PC more secure against viruses.
- Vista also has more support for external devices like printers, USB etc which makes interacting with other devices much easier
- It also has better support for something called DRM which makes using things like bittorent etc harder. This is to prevent piracy.
Having said that, Vista is reputed to be a memory hog. Its difficult to install vista on older boxes and get them running smoothly. I would say, that if you already have a PC, stick to XP on the same. If you are contemplating buying a new PC, but can wait for 6 more months, then, look at installing Vista on it. Hopefully, if there are small things that need ironing, Microsoft would have fixed them by then!
All the best

Vista. some people say Vista makes use of up a lot gadget ram. it truly is authentic. Vista makes use of those ram to velocity up the computer. Thats why there is not a lot loose ram. Xp wastes those loose ram doing not something. Vista is even better properly proper than XP than u imagine that is. Vista hasn't any situation to me for a million 3 hundred and sixty 5 days already. Vista is swifter at the same time as starting up application and starting up the computer. some people evaluate XP because they're too used to XP or they're gamer. it type of feels vista is slower in video games via 2-5 fps. No massive deal. VISTa!

Q: Windows Vista? Can someone please explain to me what it is..?
A: It is a newest Operating System (OS) from Microsoft.
Q: What does it do?
A: The same thing as XP have done to your computer. One big different is, in 512MB RAM, you can install XP and do everything, but in Vista, you can boot your PC, and can't do everything.
Q: Is it worth getting for a general home computer?
A: No. It only makes you spend more money, to buy new software and hardware. But no difference in functionality, and maybe Vista will worst than XP on some circumstance.
Q: Who is it targeted towards?
A: The people who is very curious, and will spend more money to upgrade hardware and software, and ready if some of they hardware driver won't work.
I suggest not too hurry to Vista. Just wait until microsoft launch the Service pack.

Windows Vista is the long awaited evolutionary step of the Windows operating system--which has come a long ways from its humble beginnings in the early 1980s. Globally marketed with NO industrial competetion, Microsoft corporation's Windows PC software made a mega-billionaire out of nerdy Microsoft owner Bill Gates.
It's always been the mission of Windows to make the PC "user friendly", easy for even the people who are not computer use proficent to gain the whiz-bang most from use of their home computers.
Windows Vista offers exactly that: easy use intergerated with some savvy cool whiz-bang WOW features. Vista comes in three seperate versions: Home Basic, Home Prenium and Aero; each with seperate features, one outdoes the other.
Vista can be only upgraded from Windows XP versions. Interest in upgrading your current Windows XP must be measured with a grain of cautionary common sense.
Bear in mind Vista was just released and historically, ALL Windows operating systems carried (and some feel still carry) irksome glitches and bugs when new versions are released to the public. Because Microsoft has NO competetion, they're not likely going to fix these problems in a fast timely manner--so I'd wait at least six months to a full year for them to address the Vista problems.
You can now, however, log on the official Microsoft website and search for Vista Upgrade Advisor, a small free download that scans your PC and then makes a recommendation on which TYPE of Vista your PC can handle; not every Windows XP computer can upgrade to the prized Aero Vista version.
Microsoft assurres consumers ALL newly purchased PCs WILL carry Vista, something I'd ask for when buying a PC now--and look for it noted on my purchase receipt(s).

Well, Microsoft would say that Vista is for everyone since that would make them more money. And they do have different versions of Vista you can get -- homebasic, homepremium, business, ultimate.
If you are going to get one, I would recommend that you get homepremium. Getting a homebasic seems like just a waste of money and you might be better off not getting one at all.
But the question is, do you really need it?
That is up to you. Is the cost worth the benefit?
The cost is not little. The benefit is a cool new windows with nice look & new features and stuff.
Also, make sure your computer is "fit" for Vista.
Check www.windowsvista.com for more details...

As said above Vista is the latest version of windoze.
However whether it is superior to xp is open to debate. Sure it looks pretty, but it is IMHO full of bloat.. features which use lots of your system resources without real benefit to the user. Also most of the eye candy, such as the much publicised 3d desktop thingy are only available in the most expensive versions
Also it is reported that there are many features of vista which are less than desirable, such as if you attempt to play a media file such as mp3 or a film which vista thinks you don't have a right to then it will not play it... Similarly I have read it reports home a lot more than xp.
There are many intersting things to read on the interweb to read such as at http://www.playfuls.com/news_05917_Windows_Vista_vs_Linux_vs_Leopard_vs_Windows_XP.html
most of which say don't touch it with a barge pole..
personally i am playing with ubuntu as an alternative to windoze

The BBC Click programme is showing a review of Vista at the moment (Sunday 4/2/07). See it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/default.stm
Click, basically recommends that you wait and not rush out and buy. As with all new software, let the bugs and major problems be sorted out first. Compatibility with your printer, and other hardware is likely to be a big problem. Vista comes in at least 3 home versions. Microsoft have tried to make Vista tamperproof by making it start to shut down in stages should anyone tamper with it.

It is the latest version of Windows, supposed to be better etc, but before you rush out and buy a copy check to see if your computer can take it first, as you need at least a 40 giga hard disc and at least 15 giga of free space to install it (the upgrade that is ), and all of the goodies that you have seen on the TV are only on the most expensive version, I think there are 5. so her is a link so you can check your computer first, it also give more info on VISTA.........http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/products/windowsvista/default.mspx

vista is an operating system which replaces windows xp
it basically does what xp does
for a home computer u could get vista home basic or premium
but the requirements are high so i suggest that either u upgrade ur ram etc. if its not up to the mark or just keep the operating system u have.
It's more for gamers and other people who want to maximise performance as compared to people who use it for email, photos and other basic needs

Its the next operating system designed to replace Windows XP.
Not really worth getting stand-alone at the moment, but if your buying a whole new computer you might as well get it.
Its more expensive, but it will also be more compatible/stable with newer software and will recieve support for a long time.
