Have heard on a UK radio station that Exxon is offering five thousand pounds to anyone who will refute Global Warming. Do you know anything about this?

There are literally 1000's of people in the climate modelling world. There are several climate models all in broad agreement that temperatures will rise between 2 - 5 deg by the end of this century.

No one person could refute all of that effort (probably many millions of man hours) unless there was a fundemental flaw or oversight in the modelling undertaken. Thats not to say that it couldn't happen, in fact a major oversight has in fact just been identified - unfortunately it goes the wrong way making the model predictions we've seen so far grossly optimistic. (See link below)

If Exxon have made such a offer - this shows just how seriously they take the whole matter - becasue this is simply laughable.

Oh BTW be careful of the heat this Summer, the Summer of 2003 killed 1000's of the elderly and infirm in France. And one other point - our wonderful summer of 1976 was (it is now believed) linked to global dimming, which also caused the 1984 Ethiopian famine and threatens billions in the future. Weather has been adversely impacted since about the 1950's, extreme events beyond this are more likely down to us than the good Earth.

I have heard something about it yesterday. Of course they have a personal interest in this for not wanting alternative fuels.
