I first read this poem in grade nine english class. I'd never cared much for poetry, but I can remember that poem really touching me. You could almost hear the quiteness, see the whiteness of the snow. The repitition of the last two lines is so powerful. It has an almost 'dreamlike' appeal. Robert Frost is a fantastic poet; he can create powerful and serene images in simply a few words.

Whose woods these are I think I know,
His house is in the village though.
He will not see me stopping here,
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer,
To stop without a farmhouse near,
Between the woods and frozen lake,
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake,
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep,
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
-Robert Frost
Its simplicity is unmistakable, yet collides with the depth of feeling of being in solitude lost in thought. Its a wonderful piece.

Yes they are indeed nice and I think a huge source of inspiration and hope to everyone. ' And miles to go before I sleep' reminds us that each and everyone of us have a mark to make in this world. But many a time we get waylaid by life's problems, distractions and just trying to live. Whenever we lose our purpose in life and wonder what we are doing here on this planet - then its good to remember the last line - 'miles to go before I sleep' - make your mark.

These lines by American poet Robert Frost, were the favourite of Jawaharlal Nehru. He had kept these lines on his table. On this life's journey,we cannot pause, because there is so much to accomplish. The 2nd 'sleep' signifies Death.

I remember the first time I read it and the picture on page beside it. Wow that seems like a life time a go. Funny how life seems to move so slow then all the sudden it seems like someone hit the FF button.
