this could be for many reasons.
ranging from the charger was not correctly connected ort turned on.
to a dead battery.
so lets try from the top to trouble shoot.
start by removing the battery and then using a soft dry cloth to wipe any dust or dirt from the metal contacts on both phone and battery.
now the contacts are clean the next step is to refit the battery and make sure it is porperly connected.
now plug in your charger both to the phone then to the mains supply and make sure the socket is turned on. your phone should after a minute or so show charging once you try to turn it on. if your phone will not turn on after a minute or so then you may have a dead charger, or dead battery or your mains electricty may be turned off.
if you have an alternate charger for your phone such as the data suite motorola phone tools for example and you have the data cable then try connecting the phone to your computer and charge it that way (if the software is correctly installed on your computer first). if you have tried the computer to charge but it still refuses to charge then your battery is dead leaving you only two choices buy a new battery or new handset.
if it is the charger then you need to buy a new charger.

of course your problem could be as a result that you left your phone on while charging but the power failed during the night for several hours leaving your phone fully depleted. so you should leave your phone connected for not less than 12 hours and no more than 24 hours to fully recharge your battery before you even trty to turn it back on.

assuming that all the steps are followed to diagnose your exact problem it should be easy to remedy.
remember that batteries do not recharge for ever. if your battery has been charged on average around 1000 times then it could be 100% dead. you can get a new battery from any reputable phone store or direct from the motorola.com website.

good luck.

1 more possibility...the phone socket has 4 connector pins, the power goes to 2 of them AND there is a link in the charger plug connecting a third pin to the power. All these need to be connected for it to charge. Have you tried an alternative charger?, but it has to be the right one!, connecting a universal USB supply with the usb lead will not work.

My daughter's V3 had a similar problem, we thought it was a charging problem, but then found out that the screen flat cable was broken, and the screen was off. The cable problem is a recall problem on V3, and should be repaired free of charge.

Did you drop the phone before? I dropped mine once and the screen went blank, but the keypad still worked. Maybe you could try charging it on your computer if you haven't done that.

You gotta plug the other end of the charger into the wall... Lol just kidding, but the charger might have not been plugged in all the way.
