Because of the way they spell colour or color... if their car has a bonnet instead of a hood.... etc. We are one people separated by a common language.

the first thing is the spelling. colour/ color- favourite/ favorite- centre/ center etc. those are obvious.
but british humor (that's another one , humour) is also very different.

one clue is to look at the spelling, the British spell correctly, it won't tell you what country they are in though
