I'm originally from the western part of NC but I spent some time in Great Lakes, ILL while I was in the Navy. I have to say Raliegh just for the simple fact that it's not so freaking cold.

I don't like the south as a place to live, so Raleigh is out of the question. Not to mention the humidity and terrible school systems.
Illinois is a great state and Chicago is the greatest city, imho.
