I should think that it would be readily apparent to anyone that pays attention to several mass media outlets that the slant of a majority of news stations is decidedly to the left.

Between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2005, almost 1,400 stories appeared on the following major news networks: ABC, CBS and NBC evening news. Of these 1,400 stories more than half focused on the costs and problems of the war, four times as many as those that discussed the successes. Almost none of the stories gave light to the triumphs of American soldiers.

When a nonpartisan media watchdog organization named the Center for Media and Public Affairs conducted a study of the network news broadcasts, the results were thus; during the active war against Saddam Hussein, 51% of news reports about the conflict were negative; during the 2004 general election, 89% were negative; by spring 2006, 94% were negative. Even during Vietnam and Korea media decline wasn't as sharp despite a drastically higher casuality rate.

I absolutely agree that the media favors the left. I can't stand it. I am from a military family, and have many friends in the military. The stories they come back with are not at all like what you see in the news. They come back telling of Iraqi's hugging and thanking them daily for their being there and freeing them from Saddam. They bring back pictures of Iraqi children smiling and hugging them. They tell of all the good things going on in Iraq. I have not heard one complain about any of their missions or complain of anything.

Is this any different than your local news? If you notice most news whether it is national or local tends to report negative news. That being said just because it is negative does not mean they have a liberal agenda as you are putting out here. All news is like this and has always been. Under the Clinton administration it was no different. The news reported on the negative parts of what was going on. The majority of people do not watch news if it is positive on a daily basis, that is a fact. Therefore you report important and "negative" news regardless who owns the white house. I for one at least want all news good and bad, but the news is a business not a service and happy stories do not get ratings. Even Foxnews does not report happy things most of the time. Though it might be supportive of the president, they install negative news by blasting the ones who do not support it, so it works both ways.

Perhaps one should determine in what context Iraq is a war. iraq is an occupied country. Occupied countries usually rally a resistence by their people against their occupiers. In this context how exactly does the world 'terrorist' fit in? Were the French resistence in WWII terrorists because they battled the Germans who occupied their country? Of course many s**t disturbers have pored into Iraq which was prime for civil and religious strife if anyone ever broke down the once thing that united the people of that country - fear of their repressive government. Iraq is bound to break into several nations with Iran emerging as a regional power and the real winner of this 'adventure'. To try to be so black and white and say they are terrorists who 'hate freedom' is plain stupid...they see this war as a struggle for their own freedom which is a great irony.

Liberals-an ideology, philosophical view that holds LIBERTY to be the primary value. It is characterised by freedom of thought, free exchange of ideas, limitations on power (especially government and religion), the rule of law, a market economy that supports free enterprise, and a transparent system of government. in which the rights of all citizens are protected.
It is NOT an all purpose bogeyman for whatever the more ignorant elements of the Right Wing want to scapegoat on any given day!
Liberalism should not stand idly by while morons such as the guy responsible for the above posting continue to scapegoat a philosophy with a proven track record of success.
Particularly when the Right Wing has fornicated the pooch to the extent it has in Iraq right now!!

Most people who call themselves conservative are good decent people, I realize that the lunatics and ideologues aren't the majority. I look foward to what conservatives reinvent themselves as after they have crashed and burned from the current fiasco.

They had Congress, they have a majority in the Supreme Court, they seized the Executive branch under VERY suspicous circumstances, they had FOX NEWS, Clear Channel and AM radio, they had real journalists trying to be like FOX NEWS. They had nothing but goodwill and a blank check after 911.

AND THEY STILL FAILED MISERABLY AT THE EXPENSE OF OUR SOLDIERS AND THE US CONSTITUTION.

Good news doesn't sell, unfortunately.
Now, all anyone has to do is to look at all the thumbs down Missy M's answer received to see that is true. People don't want to believe what she is saying, even though she is from a military family and hears from them what is ACTUALLY going on over there. Why is this so difficult for people to accept? I also have family in the military who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq, several times, and they have said the same thing, the media is very biased and that they wish they would report all the good that has been done. What is the reason that people are so against hearing this? We are not there, why not at least listen to returning military and see what they have to say? Doesn't anyone WANT to hear good news?

If the situation is indeed negative, expect the coverage to be negative.
The public is under no obligation to be cheering sycophants for the Military.
The news media is under no obligation to be cheerleaders.
These media organizations are owned by huge corporations and reflect an agenda that leans right not left.
If you don't believe me, when's the last time you saw a hard hitting story on drugs run on a network that runs Pharmaceutical company commercials.
I remember seeing last month an NBC story on "the forgotten war-The War on Drugs". It was bemoaning the fate of THREE mercenaries...er..I mean contractors whose plane was shot down while doing recon in Colombia. The civil war in Colombia is one in which we've been sponsoring mercenaries, using chemical warfare(defoliants) against indigenous populations, and backing a monstrous dictatorship. The story was a heart wrenching piece about how 3 mercenaries won't be home fro Christmas.
This is how liberal NBC is. It does PR pieces for mercenaries.
The entire frame of debate is Center (arguments for the Status Quo) to Reactionary (those wanting to push things to the Reich...or Right)
There is no Liberal Media. What media we have is little more than PR for the Rich and Powerful.

What rosy picture are you expecting the media to produce. Talk about propaganda that is exactly what it would be. The situation in Iraq is awful. Just read this story http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070202/D8N1APV86.html

Notice about halfway down where it says this:
Only a day earlier, 16 American intelligence agencies made public a National Intelligence Estimate that said conditions in Baghdad were perilous.

"Unless efforts to reverse these conditions show measurable progress ... in the coming 12 to 18 months, we assess that the overall security situation will continue to deteriorate," a declassified synopsis of the report declared.
Are they undermining the war effort too or just reporting what they see is happening? Maybe there are no good stories coming out of Iraq because there is little good to tell about.

The liberal biased enabling media is the problem.

They refuse to cover negative news about liberal bedwetting moonbats and refuse to cover positive news about conservatives.

Liberals are unable to win in the market place of ideas. Liberals can't win or be successful without having to cheat.

Liberals want to shut down free speech that the internet and talk radio provide.

Liberals are the new fascists.

Liberals suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Its real and it's incurable.

When stricken with this incurable disease, liberals minds warp into anti-American terrorist supporting mean spirited bigoted hunks of quivering flesh with an appetite to appear in front of a camera somewhere.

Liberals would gladly sacrifice millions of lives abroad and here at home in they derranged attempt to discredit President Bush.

This is a war filled with problems, problems that can't be swept under the carpet by FOX and Rush. Today, or was it last night, 130 Iraqis killed by a 1 ton bomb. 3060 troops killed, corruption galore, no end in sight, 26,000 troops wounded, a civil war, Iran drooling at the chance to hop right in and kill more. Hey, what's not to like?

Blaming the messenger just won't cut it anymore. The war is a huge mistake that we cannot back out of now. Someone a whole lot smarter than Bush is going to have to figure a way to extricate us from that hell hole.

t disagree!
Our forefathers saw it before hand that FREEDOM of SPEECH is paramount, for obvious reasons to keep accountable those in power that there actions must in accordance to laws of the land and the will of the people.
It is not YOU , NEOCONS or BUSH to define "national security issues vis-a-vis reporting the WAR in IRAQ.

Because it's ILLEGAL. You know it , everyone knows it today!

The media no matter what side it tilts, can't sustain for a long term the IMMORAL support of any issue.

Remember the MEDIA was duped just like the Americans who voted for Bush's second term as well the world that believed the ISRAELI reporting of WMD (via their ZIONIST NEOCON tails) and declared an immoral WAR against a sovereign nation that has no direct or indirect involvement in US fear of TERRORISM ( a disease transmitted from ISRAEL).
