People get insulted when you tell a joke that lumps any group of people together in a derogatory way. That joke is insinuating that all black people are illiterate when in reality there are many who are far more intelligent than you could ever hope to be.

The people mostly offended are racist themselves, but won't admit it. Also, racist jokes are rude, insulting, and usually come from people who are immature or uneducated.
