Ovulation itself takes place in the course of 1-2 minutes. The follicle facing the abdominal cavity ruptures-releasing an egg...the egg itself can stay there for 36 hours-so anytime sperm reaches the egg (or even before the egg is released) it you have a chance of conception. The window therefore is best a few days before and after ovulation, because sperm in the right conditions can live inside of you between 3-5 days... Hope that wasn't too scientific! Good luck!

Once the egg is released it takes approx 2 days on its journey and has the chance of being fertilised for 2 days. Its always a good idea to have sex 5 days prior to ovulation & then leading up to it as well as during as sperm can live for 5 days in your body. You should have another 24 hours. Good luck!

This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive. My Doctor recommended it to me and after 1 year of trying I got the book. It worked the very next month. It turns out that my timing was wrong due to mis-information. I hope it helps you, too! It's not only about getting pregnant. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

Generally, if you have sex once you have already ovulated then you have missed your chance for that month. The best time is a day or so before to give the sperm time to travel.
