not much except in degree of caring...a lover is also you're best friend and sexual partner...a friend can be a sexual partner and a friend at the same time...but the feelings aren't as intense or as exclusive.

you can have many friend but you only have one lover.(I mean the true lover).

friend sleeping together is innocent and with clothes, usually called a sleep over. lover "sleeping" together without clothes and not so innocent.
