If you mean "of all time" whether or not they are still together, then The Beatles is clearly the only answer. If however, you're referring to bands that are still together and/or still performing, that gets a little fuzzier.

U2 is perhaps the most revered and famous band still performing together. Can't think of any other band with the rep and staying power in recent years.

beatles, hands down.
they were revolutionary. I look up to them more than the RS. Of course, they dont have a magazine... well, they may, just not as popular as the rolling stone.

I don't see any band besides the Rolling Stones.When these bands were in their prime , there were less people buying"records".
This is how modern bands sell more cds and are more popular..
It doesn't make them better or more talented.

The Beatles are pretty big, but Led Zeppelin is huge everywhere.
