Kimber.....it's a common situation with all. Dreams are the brains way of shaking off all the physiological gunk we have gone through during our waking hours. It is a release from emotional, mental, and other strains we go through on a daily basis.
If you were watched as you sleep and every time you went into REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and the one who was watching you would wake you up every period of REM then you would get your sleep eventually. Yet eventually you would go into a state of hallucinations, paranoia, and if deprived of REM long enough, it is possible to go into a state of dementia.
REM is indicative of dreams going on in your sleep.
If you want to remember your dreams then the best thing you can do is keep a note pad beside your bed and write it down when your wake up. Short descriptive words in small sentences will jog your memory bank later on when you read your notes, and you can recall your dreams and their details.
Most dreams are for your mental health, however there are dreams that do warn you of dangers. Dreams that will tell you something good can be expected. These dreams are the sum total of your five senses that have picked up very subliminal clues to your own personal life and have come to certain conclusions for yourself.
Now then... what to do about your dreams you might think are saying something? Well that would take a long personal study to know when and what to listen to in your dreams.
Contrary to popular belief there are no dream readers, those book of dreams your see in the second hand book stores? They are there for a good reason. No one can read your dream but you yourself. It's your brain talking to you.
Sweet dreams darlin.

I don't know why this is but I would guess that it's because dreams are usually a bundle of things that your brain 'unloads' while sleeping, things that entered your mind randomly throughout the day and you shoved aside for later and 'forgot' about and so your mind gets rid of them or something that occupies your mind or that happened that day that your brain processes while you sleep. For this reason, once you have begun the day, your dream is forgotten because your mind starts working on other things and it lets go of the stuff that it wanted to.

If you would like to remember your dreams, I recommend keeping a notebook beside your bed with a pen and writing your dreams down right after you wake, even if it's just random words or scribbles, in order to recall the dreams later. It's called a dream journal and most people keep them, especially writers.
