The geniuses at Apple decided that there is no reason to ship installation CDs any more or User manuals.
Call THEM and COMPLAIN!!!

You need to go to www.apple.com and download itunes
Then connect your ipod and iTunes should start automatically.
Then you do File->Import Folders and follow instructions on how to load your existing MP3s to your "Library"
Then load the Library songs to your ipod

MP11 will do fine...just become familiar with a few basic terms to get comfortable with the process;
MediaPlayer uses a Library, iPod uses a Playlist, and putting your songs on the player is called Sybchronizing the 2 devices (permanent storage with temporary storage).

Media Player will search your system for all available music files for playback...and this is called your Library.

During playback, a file name is shown on the right panel...this is where you will create a Playlist of the songs you want to put on your player...Double-click the desired files one-by-one on the Library panel on left, and they will be added to the new Playlist.
*just above the right panel is a text link, choose "save playlist" if you want to make it easier the next time you update songs.

Once your Playlist is complete, click the Sync button to transfer the playlist to your iPod.

You can also build your collection by going to Apple.com and downloading the current copy of iTunes for your player.
The itunes software will make creating playlists and updating the player as easy as MP does, and also has the Apple MP3 songs store included to buy more files.

You have to have itunes. Once you install itunes (free download from apple.com) it will automatically download any music in itunes to a connected ipod.
