The dealer can make one using your VIN number only if the original owner registered the key for the car with Mazda. Otherwise even Mazda has no way of knowing which cars have which key codes. Try the Vin number at the dealer first. Otherwise the easiest way is to remove the passenger side door lock. It has the key code on it and then it's eay to get a key made. Double check this with your dealer but I know all the 80's and early 90's Mazdas had the code on the passenger door lock because I worked at a Mazda shop and that's what we always did. Hope this helps.

You might have to have the vehicle towed to a Mazda dealership if you have an immobilizer(computer chip) key equipped model. My 98 626 has the immobilizer key and it can only be programmed by the dealer and you have to have 2 keys made. The dealer can use your VIN to pull up your key code and can tell you which type of keys you need.

I don't know if you have a mechanical key only or some type of mechanical electrical combination. But if it were only a mechanical key then you could make another key with the key code. The asian manufacturers put this on a stub that comes with your car. It might be written in your owners manual. Or you could go to the dealership and with the VIN number on your windshield you could have them make one. Next time have a back-up key stored with a trusted family member, this would save you lots of headaches.
You can always call a locksmith but ofcourse that is going to be expensive.

If you have run out of keys, call AAA or any mobile vehicle emergency service and have them open your car so you can get your proof of insurance and registration. Take those to your Mazda dealer and they should be able to get you a key made for your vehicle.

You don't need to get panicked, since you can't find the key you lost all you need to do is to change the Key starter to a new one.
