We are going on a trip next semester and we are only 20 but we would really like to rent a car. Are there any companies that would rent a car to us? If not, are there any other options we should consider?

We are wanting to rent a car throughout the UK and Ireland and were wondering if you had to be a certain age to rent the car and if it would cost extra. Does anyone know of any companies specifically that would rent a car to us and the cost? Thanks!

just want to confirm that the previous poster is correct it is 17 year old and you will need a internationl driving licence as well asa passport and credit card.

Best thing to do is to goto a local travel agency where you are from and get them to get a car for you to hire. I know when i wanted to hire a car at 17 in the uk i had problems.

If you are new to driving in the uk it is alot different to the US, where im guessing ur from.

IT all depends where you want to see in the UK really. Cars are great but if you are in London there more trouble then there worth. If you are traveling thougout the uk, you could do it by train which wouldnt be too hard. have you got a list of places where you want to goto ?

Rental Car Age Limit

If you have passed a recognised driving test the age for driving a car in the UK is 17. To hire a car you will need an international driving licence (get it from your national or regional automobile association), your passport and national driving licence along with a credit card.
So you have to be 17-years-old (although I suspect most car higher companies will not hire to anyone under 20 or 21)
Have an international driving licence
passport
national driving licence
credit card.

It might be tough to find one. Most car rental agencies don't rent cars to people under 21 (even if they have a valid driving license). Some even require you to be 25. Most charge extra if you are under 25.

Otherwise, coaches are very good. Also, a car isn't much use in the South of England.

just to sort of disagree with the poster above me..

a car IS needed in the south, Especially the Southwest (which in my opinion is the best place ) as there is quite a lot of countryside.. i mean, buses, coaches and trains will be fine for larger towns and cities.

but if you want a car - then whatever..

i think you can rent under 21 but it is more expensive.... not totally sure though.
