Why not, because US is once a part of British Empire

The Commonwealth is formed by what is often called the Second Empire. It consists of nations that maintained some idea of a constitutional role for the British Government and Monarch into the 20th century. Some members of the Commonwealth, such as Australia and Canada, still maintain what is really a ceremonial and titular connection although for all practical purposes they are completely independent. Others, like India and Pakistan, have no residual constitutional connection.

The USA severed any constitutional connection on the declaration of independence.

This is a very good question Laiyuzeng.

The answer is not as complicated as the others try to make it.

There are two simple reasons: one from history and one from modern times.

From history, the reason the US is not part of the British Commonwealth is that its economy was based on Capitalism and Democracy. The British economy was based on an economy controlled by the Monarchy and Parliament meaning overy regulated and overly taxed. The British economies back then were based on "institutional" profitability not "individual" profitability.

The modern reason it is not part of the Commonwealth is that LESS money can be made by US individuals and businesses if they are members of the Commonwealth than if they were free and independent. There's not enough money it to motivate America to join the Commonwealth. There is also the matter of who has tax sovereignty authority.

Yes, the U.S. WAS once part of the British Empire, and as you can see by the reactions, the Americans are proud of their little war, which they won with the assistance of the French (see how many here forgot to acknowledge that fact?) and which helped them to gain their independence. Even after their independence, the Americans still fought with the British in 1812 (the Americans like to think of the result of that war as a victory - when in fact it was a draw). Now, after all this fighting, I think the British neither welcomed them, nor did the Americans care to be part of the Commonwealth. Okay "patriots" give me your thumbs down!

The official British Commonwealth was formed in 1949 after the 2nd World War, the original concept was planned in 1926. U.S. was not in the list because she is Independence in 1776 after the Revolution War, a time and period too far away from 1926 0r 1949 and the British did not invited her because she lost the Revolution war at which the French was much overjoyed.

Because the U.S. couldn't stand being "under the Queen" as the Queen is the head of the Commonwealth.
It's just an organization for us with ties to Britain or other commonwealth to schmooze for business and fun.
Since the U.S. has ties to Britain, it could.

Because commonwealth is associated with the political and social order of Great Britain being a monarchail government where they coined in Conrress Upper class and lower class of House of Commons. People dissatisfied with the arrangement in Great opted to leave Breat Britain and found new England in America abhoring form of society in mother land hence they established government that is democratic and much freedom.

Because by the time the Commonwealth was formed, the US has long gone its own way and no longer had the same tradition of closeness to the "Mother Country".

The U.S. declared then battled for their Independence. That was back in 1776, to the late 1780s I believe. Then we fought them again in the war of 1812.
