It's really rediculous. My family has only been in this country for less than 80 years, and we are put in the same group with the people who have been here 400 years! We keep hearing that "Black people get special treatment because of what we did to them." I'm sorry, but for most of Southern New England, New York, and New Jersey that is not the case. I keep hearing black people say things like, "My great-great-great-grandmother was a slave", well MY GRANDPARENTS were slaves in Poland when Hitler invaded. Guess what! I'm not Jewish! I'm a Catholic Pole. They actually met in the slave camp! Also, we as the Poles have been trampled on as a culture for at least 300 years (which is longer than African Americans), even up until the 1970's. You want proof? Just look at the history of Chicago and the square mileage where the Poles were allowed to live! Almost like a good old fashioned American Ghetto. I feel alot of minorities are pushing themselves down.

Have you noticed how European Immigrants have brought themselves out of poverty? Even though they've been kicked around, just watch "Gangs of New York" or "The Godfather II". I don't think they complained about it as much as some of the minorities today.

"I feel alot of minorities are pushing themselves down." Sounds like you're guilty of lumping too!
Well I'm tired of being lumped into the percentage of Blacks who you claim get special treatment and group all Whites together as descendants of slave owners. If you haven't been in our shoes then you're not even qualified to assume that we push ourselves down.
Many other oppressed races have been able to "pull themselves up" a little bit faster because they were able to blend in, change their accents, READ, attend schools with Whites, know about their history as a people, speak their own language!! Black people still talk about slavery because of the residue that 400 years has left on a people.
When did this become a contest about which group had it worst?!

I feel for the african-americans because they went through a history that was not their choosing. I also feel for your ancestors that were in the concentration camps. However, to be fair I will agree with you that whites are lumped together and I've given previous thought to your question. I am in a very similar situation as you because my ancestors all came to this country after the civil war.....they had nothing to do with it, and incidentally I'm from NJ. I have several different 'caucasian' ethnicities in my blood....from Polish to Irish to Italian in addition to others and half of my ancestors came here even past the american reconstruction period, like around the turn of the century. So I understand what you mean about being lumped together.....it's not accurate to blame all white people's ancestors for slavery. But I will also say that there was discrimination going on when my ancestors were here.....and I have no idea if they contributed to it or tried to fight against it......like you say, they were fighting their own battles of discrimination and trying to get acclimated to the country.......so I don't know what my ancestors did during their 'acclimation' years, so to speak. I will say lastly, however, that I have never been directly blamed for having lineage to slavery....maybe it's cause I've been up here in Jersey all these years....I don't know....but while I understand where you're coming from, I haven't had any accusations of slavery lineage as of yet. In any case, it's a fair question.

I hear ya man! Can't say my ancestors were slaves for sure, but they definitely weren't around during slavery in the U.S.. My Great grandparents on oneside came to the US in the early 30's from Germany and the otherside came from Ireland around the 20's!

Hi papadego!!!
We meet again!!! That's right, the fact that minorities are constantly pushing themselves down, as you stated, comes from culture and education.
All the ideas and complexes generated by being minorities, will hunt them (if you will), for generation into generations. It is as
I believe a state of mind, but both, whites and minorities which ever these might be are to blame.
Whites for thinking and feeling as a superior race but also minorities for not educating properly to avoid and change....
(THE MINORITIES MENTALITY). You see, it takes two to Tango.
Let's all hope for the best. To find a neutral point where all could meet, as one!!!
GOD BLESS YOU AND HAPPY LIFE

Some people are merely more comfortable with their own race and assume that other racial groups will not accept them.
They may be afraid that if they go up to someone else (let us say, a Mexican) and say "Hello, how are you today my fellow human"
that a reply containing the word bendeho and rude laughter will follow.

I 2d Clone's and Wolfie's responses: gay adult adult males/women individuals and transgendered persons combat violence and discrimination (additionally considered one of those violence, of course) it rather is in keeping with a considerably dichotomous gender/intercourse gadget. A 'genuine guy' is born male and of course has as much as now women individuals, and of course those women individuals might desire to be 'genuine women individuals' in that they have got been born female and ought as much as now adult adult males. the two gays and transgendered undertaking those ideas, wherein society has invested lots cultural and reasonably-priced capital (I recommend, i definitely confess to reading style magazines, yet permit's settle for it: in accordance to them, anybody is heterosexual and cisgendered). So all of us undertaking what's so expensive to maximum of - and subsequently we are all engaged on the comparable time table. I strongly choose that we are lumped jointly - for the two gays and transgendered, living as we could like it is not a given, and all of us only opt to stay.

I Agree They do tend to push themselves down. I think everyone needs to just quit with the race cards and realize that they are judging themselves more then anyone else is judging them and it only hurts them to do this.
