Well, endurance is probably the most important factor instead of speed. Try running in different conditions, such as different locations and different weather to see how you feel. Also, time yourself to see how fast you can run/walk a mile. Sometimes getting a running buddy can be a good motivator. Eat a well-balanced diet and make sure you have good running shoes. Wear something you know you will be comfortable in for a long run. Also, tell people that you are doing this. Putting the word out will make you want to achieve it. Then when they ask you about it later, you can tell them how you did. Good Luck..
