I had a Baby on the 21st of December. So a little over 6 weeks ago. I was given the Epidural and I had it twice prior due to Labor Pain with my 2 other Children. Now recently, actually about the past 10 days I have so much pain in my joints and mainly at night but more and more now during the day. My lower back, actually the spine, my knuckles. I can't pick my child up without being in so much pain because of my shoulder hurts so bad. My Knees and Hips are hurting so bad that I can't walk downstairs, I have to crawl .. sort of. Anyway. The reason why I brought up the Epidural was because tonight a friend of ours who is a Nurse told me that in one of the classes she was attenting she heard that it can be caused by an Epidural and I was wondering if anyone else ever heard of it. I know I should go to the doc but I am someone who wants to wait and wait until I can't take it anymore but I don't want to live of painkillers right now either.

There are so many things that could cause this. It could be something lacking in your diet. I wouldn't wait to see the doctor. I would make an appointment as soon as possible.
I made the mistake of putting off seeing my doctor and as a result, my health has suffered in unnecessary ways. I will get better, but it's a long battle back to feeling well again. So please don't wait. Best wishes to you.

I gave birth with Epidural and thank god did not have any complications. There is a slight chance that Epidural can cause pain in the spine and even paralyze a woman, but that chance is molecule. From what I read on Epidural side-effects is that it should have happened right away, not a week later. Are you still taking Mortin or your pain medication? Maybe you had a dislocated hip? My cousin had that after giving birth and had problems walking and her spine hurt allot. My best advice would be to see your OB, or give him a call. I know that now is not the perfect time to be on medication but it is better to take care of it right away, later it might be too late.
Here are some sites that have more info on side effects of Epidural http://transitiontoparenthood.com/ttp/foreducators/ceinfo/Side%20Effects%202.htm

Congratulations on your new baby.

You mean you weren't told epidurals could cause these problems later on? And you had a baby on the 21st of December? Where did your doctors study medicine? Even way back in the dark ages 21 years ago I was told that Epidurals can cause joint/back pain as well as migraines later on after birth. And you say this friend who is a nurse just learned of it? Where are these doctors and nurses practicing because I certainly don't want to need medical attention from them.

It's possible that you have a pinched nerve in your spine and that it is causing your joint pain. Whether from the epidural or just the physical trauma from child birth you may never know but a chiropractor can probably help! I had a pinched nerve in my back and had numbness in my fingers, severe pain in my arms and my physician wanted to send me to be tested for arthritus. I went to a chiropractor and a few weeks later all of my symtoms were gone. It's worth a try and they don't push any sort of meds on you. Good Luck!

Hi dear this is noni just take me as a friend .Let me tell u that i am not a doc. but a proud mother of 1yr old daughter. Ihad section dilivery. But then also i suffer all those thing and pains which u r facing.Delivery through is someting like taking help from some one to give you relife from household work or your off. work, but have u ever give a thought to it that what happen if we face major loos just because of that helper? Actu. in normal delivery weand our strength is the main reason who bring our kid safe and sound to this world, and only our baby has the power to make a way to come out through our pelvic. But in epidural we surrender our selves to a unnone thing that is medicine who work on behalf of us and our baby. Means it control our bones , musele, vains and above all our sences. And result is in front of u.Well this is only because of BLOOD CIRCULATION you must be surprised but it is the fect. So plzzzzzzz try not to get penic. If you can arrange then plzzz bye one actupressure trey , first try to stand on that and slowlel try to walk on it.I know its notr ez i also took 1wk to get used to.but now i m fine very fine. And forepain just take crosin one in morning and one at bed time. thats it .... all the best band get well soon for your self and for your family and kids. And yes plzzzzzzzz don't forgot to take your regular pills I.E CALCIUM, IRON AND VIT. Bye take care.U can use trey even while reading my mail, while doing brush, watching t.v any time.

Epidurals can cause all kinds of nasty problems!! It probably is the reason for all your pain, hun!
I once knew a woman who got an epidural and they stuck it in her the wrong way, and she was paralyzed from the waist down and had to be in a wheelchair. That really sucked because how can you take care of a newborn baby when you are newly crippled and learning how to live your life from a wheelchair. It was really hard for her!!
See your doctor ASAP and find out what's wrong with you. It's really hard to enjoy motherhood when you are living in constant pain!!!
Take Care, hun!

Your condition has nothing to do with your epidural...and please ignore the the "old wives tales" about people becoming paralyzed from labor epidurals or suggestions that a chiropractor 's advice should be sought. Contact your OB-GYN doctor who will either treat you or refer you to a qualified physician for treatment.
