does it mean what ransportation did you use? or it is about directions?

You need to use the phrase in some kind of context.

It means "how did you arrive where you are at". But depending on how it's used it can be asking what type of mode of transportation you used, or what you used to find the place, or how you prepared for the journey, or what caused you to take the journey, etc.

It can also refer to how you arrived at a certain point in your life.

I believe it means what thoughts did you have that inspired you to be where you are both physically and mentally.
