you could have them send a text to your email and then you would have the address to send them texts. If they can't send to your email, then you probably cant send them a message either

You really got to go to www.peekamo.com and register for their free service. At peekamo, you can send free TXT messages to anyone in the USA and Canada from your desktop. You don't need to know their carrier or anything. Best part is that it is free, for you and the person receiving the TXT msg. Peekamo uses SMPP not SMTP. You don't have to worry about spam either. You can create groups too. I'm from Canada where if you don't have a plan, TXT messages to the US can cost upto 15cents! Check it out - it really works and its really free. and no spam at all.
Why pay the telco's when you don't have to right!

yes it is easy but you need to know who their service provider is ie: cingular, us cellular, nextel, verizon, etc...
just go to their providers website that will tell you the correct address to send email to.
your email will show up as a text message on their phone.
you can even include pictures and stuff, but this will cost them more to recieve.
