PLEASE READ THIS: According to our custom it is appropriate to give your wife a pearl necklace when you first get married. I was unaware of this custom so I didn't. My wife has mentioned it (as a joke) for five years. She always tells me how she would love a pearl necklace with a diamond and emerald clasp. Anyway, I have been working with a jeweler for the past few weeks and he made a very pretty one for $2500. Yesterday I left to go buy it and on my way I past another store. I almost stopped breathing when I saw a beautiful diamond necklace with a purple stone on the end. I went in and found out it was also $2500. I left the store and went home with racing thoughts. "Should I be safe and get her what she wants or should I get her what I think is really hot." Here's a few more details: She loves pearls but she already has a nice pearl necklace from her Grandmother. She has told me that generally she doesn't like diamonds unless it's really nice. I think these are.

Give her the pearl necklace because you want to give her something that she likes, not you!
My husband gave me a ring that HE liked and guess what, I hardly wear it, because it's not what I chose...
He ended up choosing something else...
Be safe and go for the ♥ pearls ♥

I agree with the majority here, give her the pearl necklace that you had made. I honestly think for all the reasons others have given that she will love it more, but I also think she could wear the pearl necklace you gave her almost everywhere. When it comes to diamonds, it's limiting to where she could wear them.
When my boyfriend was in Thailand he asked me what color I liked better, blue or purple. Having no idea what he was thinking about or what he might buy, I answered purple. I have a beautiful necklace, bracelet and earrings that are purple. Honestly, I very rarely dress up when I can wear purple. I have actually bought a nice black dress that the jewelry goes great with. However, If I had said blue, I could have wore them with many more outfits.

I would suggest that you give her the pearl necklace considering the fact that she has mentioned pearls before. She is trying to give you a hint! You can get a hot diamond necklace some other time in the future. You have many more occasions to buy for in the time to come. Lucky lady! Best wishes :)

get her what you think it's nice from your heart. Yes she might like if you get the pearl one. However, maybe you won't be comfortable with that and rather you love to see her with the diamond necklace.
if your wife didn't like it, she won't show it at all and she will appreciate that you give her something. If she asks you, why diamond instead of pearl? simply, you can say that I think your beautiful with diamond than the pearl.
Your wife will love your choice rather than what she wants because she loves you more than anything else.

Go with the Pearls.
it is customary, they are beautiful, and...

do you really want to keep hearing her whine about the pearl necklace you never got for ANOTHER 5 years?
(Dont say a peep to her about the diamond one...what she dont know wont hurt you)

No woman ever has enough diamonds! That being said, how about something in a colored stone instead? Pearls are more for a formal affair (wedding, etc.) and are more matronly. Give her something that she can wear with any outfit!

Get her what she wants and not what you think is hot!!! It will mean everything to her that you finally bought her a pearl but not only that but that you worked with a jeweler to have it made just for her!
As much as I love my dh, it truly bothers me when I say I really want something but he buys me something that HE liked better. I think that it reflects some selfishness on his part to choose what he prefers, kwim? Good Luck! You have one lucky wife!

It would mean a lot more to her if you give her the one she wants. She'll most likely be expecting the one she wants, and have in her mind that she wants that one and nothing else. If you get her something else, she might like it but she'll still be disappoited it's not the one she wants.
