Visit this site first (Canadian Immigration):

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index.html

Then visit the University of Western Ontario's Engineering website...best University in the country ( I work here)...

http://www.eng.uwo.ca/

Good luck to you!

The exchange rate is favorable for you if you go to Canada (assuming that you're from America)...plus, I'm from Canada; Canada has good people--they've got me! Ha ha!

Convince them that it would actually be about the same price, you'd learn more about a new place, become more independent, be further away from them which means that you won't be in their way as much (but they may also lose their dishwasher in that case...leave that part out), and that employers almost expect students to have an international experience. It looks wonderful on a resume.

Also, you should first try to convince them that you would only like to exchange for a semester or year, and then come back. Once you're there, you can say that you like it so much that you'd like to stay there to finish your education, or you'll at least have spent some time there if they want you back.

I teach at the University of Toronto....although not engineering. There are a lot of foreign students here at the university and to study here you need a few things....a student visa is the most important. To get one you need a letter of acceptance from a college or university and a sponsor...someone who is willing to be responsible for you while you are here. There are a few more things you need....a passport...a letter of health...etc. etc....but the student passport is most important.
