I buy expensive natural soaps, and hate to throw out the bits when it gets down to a small piece. But I tried to "melt" several of these in a ceramic bowl in the microwave, and got a frothy mess. Is there a simple, better way to do this or don't bother?

Put the bits into a double boiler. Heat the double boiler on very low heat. This will provide the gentle melting that is needed.

Get in the shower turn the water as hot as you dare, hold the small piece of soap and a new bar under the water, take the small piece and squeeze it unto the new bar as hard as you can. Shower away!! I do this all the time. It does not matter if the soaps are different brands, all soaps have basically the same ingredients. I have been looking for a soap press that was offered in a Carol Wright(?) catalog that was designed to do this very thing but have not found one.

Grate the soap in a dish and add abit of warm water to it, and repeat the process until your bar is big enough with your bits of soap

You need to have the soap in a pot which is in a pot of boiling water the same as you would do to melt chocolate. Softly softly is the operative word for this job.

You try a double boiler? Put a pan on top of another pan full of hot water on top of the stove. Will heat more evenly and slower.
