I am 32 weeks pregnant with my first child, which is a boy. I really don't know why, but I always pictured myself with a son as a first child, and felt a strong desire to try to conceive a son(although I would have been just as happy with a girl!).
I did a lot of reading and research on conceiving in general, and came across some helpful tips that I put to use. It took us 3 months after going off birth control to become pregnant...here are some of the things we/I did. I started taking prenatal vitamins as soon as we started trying, I took Robitussin to thin my cervical mucus to help sperm swim through, I took Vitamin b6 which is suppose to be good for female fertility, I charted my basal body temperature(fertilityfriend.com), and I used ovulation predictor kits(Dollar General brand work great, better than the more expensive ones). My husband took a multivitamin every day, and wore boxers.
We also tried the Shettle's Method for conceiving a boy. The first 2 months we were just trying, and the 3rd month of trying we did the Shettle's method for the heck of it, and got pregnant...with a boy.
Here are Shettle's reccommendations:
Shettles says in order to increase the chances of having a boy, you should have sex no earlier than 24 hours before ovulation to 12 hours after ovulation.
Intercourse closer to ovulation the faster but less robust Y (boy) sperm. The cervical mucus present at ovulation is less acidic and "slippery" enough to help the Y (boy) sperm reach the egg more quickly.
Shettles suggests that if you are trying to conceive a boy, deep penetration from your partner, preferably with the "doggy style" position, will deposit the sperm closer to the cervix giving the more aggressive and quicker moving "boy" sperm a head start to fertilizating the egg first.
hth!

Sex of a child is completely random. It is determined by the father's sperm. There is no way to increase your chances of having one sex over the other, and the chances do NOT get better the more children you have. Each time you have a child, the odds remain the same that you will have either sex (so having 4 sons will not increase the odds that your 5th child will be a girl).
People should learn to feel blessed by the fact that they have a healthy, happy child rather than worry about having one who is the "right" or "wrong" sex.

I think modern medicine is the answer, short of that, it's the man that determines the sex of the child, and there's an old wives tale that says you can eat certain foods, proteins mostly, to help but I seriously doubt that really works.

No idea . . . but we had 3 of them!!!
They do say to have sex right on the day she is ovulating, as boy sperm swim faster.
Good luck!
